How the Conversion Works

The Islamic Hijri calendar is a purely lunar calendar, unlike the Gregorian solar calendar. Each Hijri month begins with the sighting of the new moon and contains either 29 or 30 days. This makes the Hijri year approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year.
